Descrizione del progetto

Objectives:
•Produce highly specialised & transnational legal research on criminal procedural rights of the accused
•Devise a free online platform to offer knowledge & legal advice on criminal procedural rights, directed to legal professionals and accessible to EU citizens/NGOs
•Foster capacity building of legal professionals to complement their knowledge on the implementation of the EU acquis on criminal procedural rights.
•Establish stronger cooperation between national judicial and law-enforcement authorities
•Support awareness of relevant policy makers, to better identify gaps in the protection of the accused

Activities:
- National & comparative Legal research
- Development of CrossJustice platform
- Rule-based Modeling of Laws & Cases/Ontology
- Testing & dissemination of research results & CrossJustice platform
- Workshops & conference for professionals/policy makers.

•Directly a) EU Commission b) Judges/prosecutors/law enforcement/lawyers c) Law students/academics
•Indirectly a) Non-legal professionals using legal information b) NGOs/EU citizens/businesses c) National legislators/EU policy makers
•Capacity Building: ~60 judges/prosecutors/law enforcement ~130 lawyers Expected results
•Increase practitioners' ability to address issues on rights of persons suspected or accused of crime
•Improve common knowledge on legislation and case law in judicial cooperation concerning criminal procedural rights
•Strengthen cooperation and exchange of information between national judicial & law enforcement authorities on criminal procedural rights
•Increase policy makers’ awareness on differences in criminal procedural rights across national systems to facilitate the harmonisation of practices
