Il gruppo SIOS (Smart Interactive Objects and Systems) è attivo dal 1997 e ha partecipato in questi anni a molti progetti, tra cui progetti finanziati dalla Commissione Europea. Dal punto di vista metodologico il gruppo ha competenze che vanno dalle Interfacce Utente Intelligenti e l'Interazione Uomo-Macchina al Social Software e Web 2.0, dai sistemi di raccomandazione e modellazione dell'utente al Web of Things, dalla rappresentazione e gestione della conoscenza agli oggetti intelligenti, dall'interazione naturale con reti di oggetti intelligenti ai sistemi mobile.

Per quanto riguarda i progetti, il gruppo è stato recentemente coinvolto come capofila nel progetto PIEMONTE e in un progetto europeo sulla gestione dei servizi Web (WS-DIAMOND), in svariati progetti nazionali che hanno riguardato e l'adattamento e la personalizzazione nella fornitura di servizi, come ad esempio il progetto Smartlab in collaborazione con Città di Torino , IDynamicTV in collaborazione con Telecom Italia, CAWICOMS un progetto pionieristico, nell'ambito del VII programma quadro dell'unione europea, sulla fornitura di servizi intelligenti personalizzati.

ComfortSense, ComfortSense nasce da un bando della Regione Piemonte per sostenere la ricerca e lo sviluppo sperimentale di applicazioni integrate e innovative nell’ambito dell’internet of data (IoD). Un sistema di sensori fissi e portatili raccoglie i dati ambientali relativi al comfort e li rende disponibili tramite l’app. Le persone possono, a loro volta, restituire un riscontro soggettivo che permetterà al sistema di imparare e adattarsi alle necessità collettive di chi utilizza gli spazi
PIEMONTE (People Interaction with Enhanced Multimodal Objects for a New Territory Experience), progetto di 3 anni finanziato della Regione Piemonte e in collaborazione con Telecom Italia, Slow Food, e l'Università del Gusto
ReAL CODE, (Recommendation Agents for Local Contents in an Open Data Environment) - FONDI STRUTTURALI POR FESR 2007/2013 della Regione Piemonte. Il progetto ReAL CODE ha voluto creare le condizioni per una distribuzione mirata e intelligente dei contenuti creativi digitali nei confronti dei destinatari delle opere (finali o intermediari).
